Today I was watching the babe as he attempted to roll from his back to belly over his right side (a task he has yet to perform).
As I watched him try, I was struck by the amount of love I have for this child. I am completely caught up in everything he does. I am proud of his achievements, his effort and just him in general.
And then I realized how far I am from actually grasping just how much God loves us.
I am surprised each time I think about how much I love my little boy and then, in comparison, how much God loves me.
Infinitely,
perfectly,
Without any merit on my part He delights in me.
Not because I do anything special. Not because I do anything perfectly. Not because I am anyone in particular. Not because of how hard I try to be good.Not because I’m pretty, or holy, or tall, or short.
Only because of Who He is.
He is our Father. Only then do we become something special. We are His children.
He loves us unconditionally because of who he is. Not because of who we are or try to be.
He is loves us not for any other reason except that we are His.
He rejoices in our every moment. According to Ephesians, we are His “dearly loved children”. How can that even compare to our human love? It’s definitely amazing. Incredible even. But so true.
Zephaniah 3:17
The Lord your God is with you,
the Mighty Warrior who saves.
He will take great delight in you;
in his love he will no longer rebuke you,
but will rejoice over you with singing
