Awakening.

In our hearts, Lord, in this nation
Awakening
Holy Spirit, we desire
Awakening

How does one stay awake? In this world of hyper aware distraction it seems we are always awake. we are always awake to the input of acquaintances, the urging of peers, the pressure of living up to everyone else’s ideals and the manner in which we chose to communicate ourselves.

For You and You alone
Awake my soul
Awake my soul and sing
For the world You love
Your will be done
Let Your will be done in me

But is that really how we should be? Should we actually forever wonder who such and such is going out with? How so and so’s wedding turned out? Or how we seem to other people?

In Your presence, in Your power
Awakening
For this moment, for this hour
Awakening

Or is this hyper awareness of the minute details of other’s lives just a means of distraction or a way to keep us from really thinking? A means of keeping us unaware of and disconnected from God’s presence and power?

For You and You alone
Awake my soul
Awake my soul and sing
For the world You love
Your will be done
Let Your will be done in me

Are our souls being fed or are being stick in the continual race for human affection, accomplishments, and aspirations? Or is the feeding of our souls something we must learn? Like doing His will which brings life to our souls?

For You and You alone
Awake my soul
Awake my soul and sing
For the world You love
Your will be done
Let Your will be done in me

Every time I hear this song by Chris Tomlin I have the urge to lift my hands and rest in God’s presence, goodness, power, grace and mercy.

Like the rising sun that shines
From the darkness, comes a light
I hear Your voice
And this is my awakening

I love this song and probably share it too much.

Like the rising sun that shines
From the darkness, comes a light
I hear Your voice
And this is my awakening
Awake my soul

But the repeating phrase just begs for do-overs. For forever, again and again, being awakened to God.

Like the rising sun that shines
Awake my soul
Awake my soul and sing
From the darkness comes a light
Awake my soul
Awake my soul and sing

There is too much power in it to be still.

Like the rising sun that shines
Awake my soul
Awake my soul and sing
Only You can raise a life
Awake my soul
Awake my soul and sing

In our hearts, Lord, in the nations
Awakening
