Five Minute Friday is five minutes of free writing on a specific word. Just for fun and practice and getting past the fear of not posting something long or perfect.
Here’s mine for today on the word ‘better’.
If I want to become a better writer this year what does that even mean? More creative? More disciplined? More productive? Less distracted? Less worried about what other people think? Less prone to just avoid the task all together?
So let’s just say it. I want to be a better writer because, even if I can’t really say it’s my occupation or anything like that, it is definitely something that I do and I’d like to do it well. I would settle for just better.
So here’s to a year of getting better writing.
Better at practicing. Better at not wondering what other people might think if I spend a decent amount of time doing something that I don’t make any money at or don’t seem to having visible success with.
Better at just doing it because it feels like the next right thing for now.

Better at trusting it might be the something for now and even if it doesn’t add up to anything profitable it is still worthwhile. Even if it only helps me it is still helpful. Even if it is something that seems less purposeful in the standard sense, or potentially a waste of time or a why bother item on a to-do list.
Today it is something that I want. Even if sometimes it doesn’t make sense to say it or pursue it.
I want to become a better writer and then see what happens after that.
Not right now in the becoming, but after. After now. Right now that doesn’t really even matter.
Right now it’s the becoming that matters most.
What would you like to be better at? What’s stopping you?

Visiting as your FMF neighbor. You’re better already knowing what you want to do. Don’t worry about making money {few of us do} or what others think. Write because it comes from your heart and soul and savor every moment.
