I always want to jump in with all the plans: Write 31 days? I’m in! NaNoWrimo? If I had any sort of idea for a novel and maybe a touch more time you can bet I’d try it. The 100 Day Project? Yes, of course!

This project started as my 100 day project last summer. My goal was to write just a notecard a day. It ended up being a lesson in talking back to my inner critic (which, as a One on the enneagram, can be fairly insistent) while participating in the project.

This little note to myself came about because I wasn’t actually writing every day of my 100 day project. I wasn’t going to finish on time and that botheredme. I would write some days, skip a few and then catch up. But not. I ended up finishing my project a couple months after the other people I was following on Instagram. But I did finish my project.

It was rewarding because I did write much more than I would have. I made progress working with my inner critic. And I didn’t freak out and quit when my plan didn’t quite fit in my life. It adjusted, I adjusted.

So here’s a note to you if you just joined or started something new and aren’t sure how you’re going to keep up with everyone else:

It’s ok to do things at your own pace.

Perfection, keeping up, or even measuring up aren’t requirements for participation. Following a plan perfectly isn’t a requirement for the growth you want.

Even if you miss a few days or a few questions or a few opportunities you are still allowed to keep going and appreciate the growth from where you began. Even small attempts at change are important if we keep going instead of quitting.

Start something!
